Israel

"The man asked him, 'What is your name?' 'Jacob,' he answered. Then the man said, 'Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.'" (Genesis 32:27-28 NIV)

Israel means he struggles with God.

Comments:
The significance of names in the Bible has always fascinated me. I think God puts a lot of thought into what He names people . . . and nations. What a picture of grace that God's chosen nation is named for struggling with Him!
